The Waiting Game: Why Publishing Royalties Take About a Quarter to Arrive

You signed up, January streams looked strong, and your February statement says $0. That doesn’t mean nothing happened.

The global publishing pipeline is slow on purpose: a stream happens, the DSP reports usage, societies process and match it, they pay the admin, and then the admin pays you. Between those steps you can easily be looking at months — and industry-wide, admins often sit on statements for a long time before artists see cash.

RightsTune’s approach is simpler: we pay out royalties as soon as we receive them. A lot of admins batch everything quarterly. Rightstune typically takes about a quarter to your first payout while societies process usage — then we pay monthly as statements arrive. Partners like IMPEL (via SACEM / AMRA) and CMRRA still land on roughly quarterly society cycles, so the first check is not next week — but after that you are on a monthly cadence.

Set the right expectation

Publishing income is a long-term passive layer on top of your catalog, not a same-month DSP payout. Plan for the lag; don’t confuse lag with “it’s not working.”
