The "Producer vs. Writer" Split Dilemma

“I wrote all the lyrics and melodies, so the producer only gets master royalties, right?”

In the modern industry, creating the beat is treated as part of writing the song. Standard practice is that the producer gets about 50% of the publishing composition and the lyricist or vocalist gets the other 50%, unless you explicitly negotiate something else in writing. Assuming you own 100% because you wrote the words is a fast path to disputes and frozen royalties.
